MSUFCU boosts efficiency on business intelligence team with AI
Michigan State University Federal Credit Union is using AI to make its data more accessible.
The $8 billion credit union has been organizing its data access and reporting for the past decade, Chief Experience Officer Ami Iceman Haueter told FinAi News.

Recent data efforts have included deploying agentic AI to help employees access data, freeing the business intelligence (BI) team to handle other work, she said.
In the past, the seven-member BI team asked that requests for lists, reports or data be submitted three days before the employee needed it, Iceman Haueter said. Now, agentic AI can access the data in real time.
The tool is being piloted with a small team but is expected to roll out to all employees this year, she said.

Agentic AI in action
One team using the agent is the credit union’s marketing unit, Iceman Haueter said.
It used to take days for the marketing team to get requested lists from the BI team. Now, it’s available instantly, she said.
“That’s where AI has really created both access to data efficiency, but also clarity, because we’re not getting a bunch of data we don’t need,” she said.
Innovation efforts
The credit union is also evaluating more AI applications, choosing tasks that support employees and present clear return on investment.
Ideas for AI deployment come from MSUFCU employees, Iceman Hauter said.
“We have an internal submission system where any employee can submit efficiency ideas or innovative ideas,” she said.
Additionally, the credit union’s innovation arm, The Lab at MSUFCU, is running an eight-week pilot program that brings together leaders from across the institution — compliance, audit, risk, lending leaders and the like — to decide where AI can help their teams, she said.
When it comes to AI, “we’re exploring every corner of the credit union,” she said.
